This morning we drove south and worked our way back along the coast. Our first port of call was Palisade Head – recommended to us by Bob Simon from my work. Given that we have driven this section of the coast a gazillion times it is amazing how many great places we still have yet to discover. After Palisade Head we drove the couple of miles back to Tettegouche State park where we first hiked out to Shovel Point.Shovel Point
The area had clearly had some tough storms recently with a lot of birch trees felled. We got to admire the many caves and the new sea stack where the arch used to be.The sea stack at Tettegouche State Park
We spent the rest of the morning hiking up the river to the Two Step and High Falls. The path was muddy and we were amazed to occasionally come across a “hiker” wearing white sneakers and even better a pair of white pants – we marched past them in our muddy hiking kayaks and pants.High falls , Baptism River
No trip Up North is complete without a walk around Oberg Mountain, a hidden gem that is an easy hike with great views, I particularly like the view of Oberg lake, this time we were treated to a calm lake with near perfect reflections of the cloudsOberg Lake
We had not had lunch and were getting beat so we headed up to Lutsen and rode the gondolier to the top where we had a drink and rested our feet. Grand Marais LighthouseThat evening we walked out on the harbor walls at Grand Marais and watched the sunset over the hills.Grand Marais Harbor
