Many things impressed me about our recent trip to the Pacific, but perhaps that which captivated me the most were the petroglyphs. I found it incredibly moving to see the images carved into the rocks of families holding hands, warriors dancing and plain old green turtles swimming by. This picture is actually of a reproduction petroglyph but nonetheless captures the essence of the craft and art. They had no written form of communication to capture their history but the images carved into the fields of lava show what a great culture they created on the sterile deserts of lava.
