This weekend I want to attempt to record some of my rolling so I can coach myself to improve upon my technique. I currently own a Flip Ultra HD digital video recorder ($199) which is capable of recording two hours in 1080p High Definition. From the Flip web site I ordered a water proof case for $49 which when it arrived to my horror had no mounting screw thread on the case, I was then stuck wondering how to mount this on the kayak. I have come up with what I think is a low tech low price solution from United Intergral, designed for mounting MP3 players on car windshields. I am sure not all the parts are corrosion resistant but I think that for $2.86 I can afford to try it out and see how well it works. Shown below mounted on the bow of the Tahe I am confident it will stay put but I will obviously need to add a few safety lines to attach it the hull incase either the suction cup gives up or the clamp gives way. Hopefully on Sunday I will be able to post a video clip shot this way…. We shall see how well it turns out as the water is very murky… this may only be useful in the summer or in the pool. For a total price of $250.86, this is a very high quality waterproof system for kayaks… we shall see how long it lasts.
