We bought a new double kayak today, a Current Designs Double Vision in Kevlar, M and D test paddled it on Lake Calhoun this morning, and it will be heading south to Florida for the Winter shortly, to explore the North East Gulf Coast.
Remarkably the kayak weighs in at 60 pounds which makes it easily raised up onto the roof bars, a huge plus point for someone with a rotator cuff injury. During the test paddle 4.5mph was comfortable for cruising and a 6.3mph burst of speed was achieved during a brief moment of enthusiasm. at 16’8″ it is considerably smaller than the Wilderness Systems North Star which is our other double, but the Double Vision’s design seems to allow it to perform just as well as the longer kayak. I look forward to hearing how it handles in the waves.
